In creating "A Box Of", not only do I want it to be the "go-to" place for beautiful, unique & thoughtful gifts of kindness but also a place that supports & promotes women who are making their dreams their reality. This month, for our Women Following their Dreams series, I've been chatting with the very talented Kyla Flanagan - "The Content Stylist".
Kyla recently refreshed our website Home page and also is the creative behind our product photo's. I love that Kyla is not only a beautiful person inside and out but she has transformed her career several times over and seems to be able to adapt to whatever environment she is living in at the time. Over to Kyla...
Tell us a bit about yourself
I am originally from North Queensland but growing up moved a lot throughout Australia and even spent some time living in Papua New Guinea. I’ve continued to travel with my own family and have called Dublin, Sydney, Bundaberg, Townsville and now Tasmania home!
How & why did you get into design/social media consulting?
I have always been captivated by art & design and continually gravitated towards the creative. I completed a BA in Art History at the University of Queensland and after a few years in administration, had the opportunity to shift across to marketing & design. I have since worked with a wide range of clients in Australia and overseas on design projects across digital and print platforms. With the growth of social media a few years ago, I started offering content creation & social media management to complement my design & marketing background and help businesses maximise their reach and impact on these platforms.
Tell us about your business
The Content Stylist encompasses graphic design, content creation & curation, and social media services to help boutique brands with their creative needs. A lot of my clients are busy working IN their business and find it difficult to find time to continually be present on social media. They can also find it challenging to consistently create the right type of content to engage with their target audience. I offer a range of services from Social Media Insights, Content Creation, Styling/Imagery and Content Management to help them with their visual strategy and with their outreach and engagement on social media. From helping them establish their overall social media strategy to creating their own library of images to scheduling and posting content on their behalf – I can tailor packages to suit individual needs. My design services range from partial brand overhaul through to complete concept development. I can assist with logo refresh, logo design and a wide range of marketing collateral.
Where do you get your inspiration from?
I’m continually inspired by nature (florals are a big fave!) and I love scoping out fashion and interior design trends. I spend a lot of time on Instagram (for both work and fun!) and I don't go anywhere without my camera. Here in Tasmania the Royal Botanic Gardens are a great source of content - forever changing with the seasons and showing off nature’s gorgeous colour palettes.
What's next for you?
We love living in Tasmania and can’t wait to explore it more. Life is busy but I love it. Business is growing steadily and I look forward to future collaborations with other creative minds and possibly scaling the business - lots of ideas for the future!
What's your favourite thing about living in Tasmania?
MONA, the changing seasons, market flowers, roadside honesty boxes for produce, being able to go from the beach to the snow some weekends, never-ending list of daytrip adventures, winter festivals, winery visits… so much to love!
How do you juggle running a small business and family life?
I try to work around the daily timeline of school, homework, bath/bedtime by scheduling work for during school hours, weekends and the evening. I also try to schedule in some self-care and recently invested in working with a Health Coach (Elise from Gain Health & Wellness) to look at ways to incorporate more balance and a greater focus on health and wellbeing.
What's your favourite family meal?
Everyone in our house has a different suggestion at dinnertime but we all seem to love home-made pizza’s!
What are you currently reading?
I don’t have the patience for novels (tending more toward the visual!) but I do love to visit my local library to scour the shelves for inspiration from big, bold coffee table books. I love those by Johnathon Adler, Allegra Hicks, The Design Guild, Megan Morton, Beci Orpin, the team at Adore, and any interior design magazines.
